Purpose
Security crew personnel are required to drive or escort an armoured vehicle and to support the armoured vehicles by securing them during their daily operational functions at clients. Ensure that all areas are safe for the truck crew to exit the vehicle.
You will be rostered to either drive a vehicle or escort a vehicle for the day.
Principal Accountabilities
When assigned as Crew
This includes tags, phones, radios, firearms, collection/delivery notes, enough bags and blue seals, and any other requirements.
The escort vehicle crew must be alert and constantly survey their surroundings and immediate area for any suspicious vehicles or people.
When assigned as Driver
Driver to hand over Daily Inspection Sheet to the crew to complete their section. On completion, driver to sign together with crew and hand in.
The primary duty of the driver is to operate the armoured vehicle, or other motor vehicle to which the driver is assigned, safely, courteously and in-line with company guidelines and training.
Observe & follow traffic rules and regulations and operate the vehicle in a defensive manner, avoiding accidents arising from the unsafe or inattentive acts of other drivers or pedestrians.
Wear seatbelts while driving any company vehicle.
Housekeeping of the front compartment of the vehicle.
It is the responsibility of the driver to keep all licenses current and report all traffic violations received either on duty or off duty to local management. Brink’s will not pay any moving violations for drivers in the course of their duties.
All drivers must submit their driving licence to Security department as a minimum once per 12-month cycle. To be checked and photocopied on personal file, to ensure no driving licence violations have been committed, driving under the influence of alcohol and/ or banned substances, dangerous driving, loss of licence etc.
If there is a three-man crew, to attentively monitor messenger’s transmitter while messenger is away from the vehicle.
The driver/messenger/guard should not allow anyone to ride in the truck on a run, unless given written permission by Head of Security or Country GM. No one else can give this permission.
The driver will observe all duties further detailed in this procedure regarding inspections, accidents etc.
Only drivers allowed receiving vehicle keys after signing it out in the “vehicle key and fuel card” register.
Driver to accompany all crew and staff when access requested to the responsible vehicle. Keys not to be handed over to crew. Driver to supervise access to vehicle.
To ensure vehicle is locked and secured and keys is handed in to supervisors prior to leaving base at end of working shift. After handing the keys in, to sign the keys back in the “vehicle key and fuel card register”.
Each day before leaving the branch on scheduled assignment, the driver with the Team leader must inspect and check the vehicle as outlined by local management.The Driver must complete the Vehicle Control Form which is to be filed by the Fleet Supervisor/ Manager.
Any Driver returning to base with previously unreported damage to the vehicle in his custody will be deemed to be responsible for that damage. It is very important therefore that each driver conducts a thorough check of his vehicle and reports to the Supervisor any ‘new’ damage to the vehicle.
If there is a problem in the truck interlocks security systems, this should be communicated immediately to Security / Operation’s Manager, awaiting further instruction. The operation must be stopped, and the vehicle must return to the branch.
The driver observes the performance of the vehicle during the day’s assignment. The driver watches all gauges closely, tries the brakes periodically and listens for any unusual noise or substandard performance. The driver must report these things to the attention of Brinks Team Leader/ Fleet Manager/ Supervisor immediately and write any items on forms provided.Vehicle lights should be “on” when the engine is running. The driver conducts the oil, water checks.
It is the driver’s duty to handle the vehicle in such a way as to minimize repairs and mechanical failure and to obtain the most economical operation. While the driver should maintain schedules, it should be done with the consideration of the fact that overworking the engine in low gears attempting to pull grades without downshifting or erratic acceleration and braking results in damage to the vehicle and unduly increase the cost of operation.
The driver to ensure to acknowledge all SOP’s related to deployment (Security/Accidents and Immediate Action drills) as per the latest Country Security Regulations (CSR)
Knowledge & Experience:
Matric
CIT Industry experience
Driver’s license Code 8, (Code 10 with PDP - Advantage)
PSIRA registered grade C or higher
Firearm Competency – Rifle and handgun (Business Purpose)
CIT ‘Cash In transit’ – Advantage
Security Background i.e. operational security guards, armed response or tactical experience (advantage)
